U.S. St. Stephen's Land Office - Receivers' registers, 1806-1865.

District land office Receivers were responsible for all financial transactions relating to the sale of public lands. They issued receipts when land was purchased and when payments were made. Once all payments were completed a final certificate was issued to the purchaser. Receivers' registers contain records of receipts and certificates issued by the Receiver. The volumes vary over time and include some printed forms. Often the registers are identified as receipt or certificate registers, sometimes they are unidentified. Generally entries include the following information: date, number of receipt or certificate, name, residence, location of tract, quantity, price per acre, purchase money, amount received in forfeited land stock, and amount received in military land script. Some later volumes also include the date on which the patent was issued. These records document the business aspects of public land sales, the work of the Receiver of Public Monies and provide information on purchasers.
